Weddings in Santa Fe Print E-mail

The Most Reverend Richard Gundrey has maintained a large wedding ministry for years here in Santa Fe, NM, the city of Holy Faith. People come from all over the world to be married in this very special city. Here are some facts you should know about this ministry.

The Archbishop is a Catholic Bishop but not a Roman Catholic Bishop. He is able to preside at the ceremonies of people from all religious or spiritual backgrounds. He is very flexible and puts together wedding ceremonies that fit the spiritual needs of the couple. He does only spiritual weddings based upon God and uses a nondenominational ceremony to start out with but adjusts this to fit the needs of the couple. However he can also do traditional rites as well as non traditional ceremonies. He is open to participating with other religious leaders of various other religions in doing combined ceremonies. He does NOT do J.P. or Judge type weddings.

The couple is responsible for the date, time and location of the ceremony. He can help with suggestions but he is NOT a wedding co-ordinator, he only does the ceremonies. Local suggestions for ceremonies are Loretto Chapel, Bishops Lodge Chapel (Bishop Lamy's private chapel), and he often uses the private chapel in his home for small weddings. (25 people or less). There are also other locations here indoors and outdoors that will work for weddings. You must get a marriage license from anywhere in the state of New Mexico. (No blood tests required.)

The archbishop does weddings with taste and dignity as well as good humor and flexibility. Please call on the phone, e-mail or write to him at the addresses below to find out the availability of dates, the honorarium, and any other information you may need. Last year he did over seventy weddings within the city or close by areas. He is open to working with people from all denominations and no denomination.

Santa Fe, New Mexico is one of the most spiritual and romantic places to get married.
