Convocation was held this year from September 10th-14th in St. Louis. The center proved to be a very nicely appointed facility and the hospitality of the staff made us feel so very "at home" that it was hard to leave.
The schedule included presentations and sessions ranging from "Reclaiming the Original Blessing" to a profound presentation and experience of Lectio Divina by a very experienced monk of the Benedictine order.
Bishop Jorge's experiential session on the power of the Holy Name, in which the participants sang, then said, then silently thought a variation of the Jesus Prayer "Ἰησοῦς Χριστóς Θεοῦ Υἱός Σωτήρ" or "Iēsous Khristos Theou huios sōtēr", was a powerful experience of transcendence.
In addition to the wonderful sessions were the many opportunities for renewing our bonds with the Divine and one another in conversation, meals, Mass, centering prayer, receptions and walking the labyrinth.
This year's convocation was historical in that the first elected Presiding Bishop was installed in office as we celebrated the theme of "Fifty Years Reclaiming the Original Blessing". This historic year helped us reflect on what has come before us as a church as well as the many opportunities for ministry and sharing that lay ahead. |
