In today’s Scripture reading from John, (John 9:1,6-9,13-17,34-38), we listen to the story of Jesus healing a blind man. As one of the participants in the CCOA Lectio Divina gathering noted, it was the formerly blind man who recognized Jesus, while the fully-sighted Pharisees did not. This caused us to wonder what in our lives we don’t see.

Another observation was that the Pharisees seemed to believe that only they had knowledge or wisdom. A comment about this suggested that, if we are open, we can often learn much from those who simply state their truth; often much more than from those who recite rules, tradition, or even Scripture.
