Psalm 34:1-9 tells us that when we love and fear/respect God, good things will happen. If we pray, we will no longer be afraid. We will be happy; we will have no troubles. We will have everything we need. These verses are filled with hope, except when they aren’t.

What do we say to people who do praise God, who do pray, but continue to have problems? People in some churches may say such people aren’t praying enough, aren’t tithing enough. Or they might say that it will happen, but in God’s time. These words don’t help. Perhaps the better response is to listen, to offer emotional support, to help in other ways, and to love them.
