Two of the Scriptures for February 22 were Genesis 2:7-9, 3:1-7, and Matthew 4:1-11, in which we read of the contrast between Adam’s inability to avoid temptation and Jesus’ masterful ways of overcoming the many temptations laid before him. We might say, “Sure, but he was Jesus!” True, and he modeled for us what we, too, can do. He knew what he was and wasn’t to do. He trusted that what he had learned in the Scriptures was best. And he didn’t reach beyond what was his. On the other hand, Adam seemed very quick, too quick, to toss away what he knew was right and wrong. Adam apparently didn’t trust God’s admonitions. And, Adam wanted what wasn’t his to have – the knowledge that belonged to God.

Who do we most resemble in these readings?
