Not everyone was taught this, but many of us grew up with the admonition to put things aside for a rainy day. Many of us might have a backup supply of different items. How much is too much? When does having a backup supply become hoarding? And what about the cultures that expect people to share everything?
These questions are related to Luke 12:13-21. The rich man had such a successful harvest that he decided he needed larger barns, but God calls him a fool. The words might also cause us to believe God felt the man was being selfish.
We’re told that in God’s way of thinking, it is better to be spiritually rich, which could well include sharing, than materially rich, as one who has an abundance or over-abundance.
So, again, how much is too much?
