The Scripture readings for Sunday, December 7, are: Isaiah 11:1-10; Psalm 72:1-2,7-8,12-13, 17; Romans 15:4-9; Matthew 3:1-12. Some words that come up are wisdom, knowledge, understanding, unity, good fruit, welcoming, justice, care for the poor and afflicted, and peace.
The psalmist prays for a ruler who has these gifts and qualities and whose rule shows this. The next request is for such a ruler to be blessed forever.
May we join the psalmist and pray that all of the rulers of today’s world might also be endowed with these gifts and qualities to bring all the people of the world many blessings. So may it be. Amen.
