In Psalm 27:1-4, 13-14, the psalmist says that God is his light, his salvation, and his refuge. Because he trusts God, he has nothing to fear. Paul admonishes the people to stop picking sides and turn to Jesus (1Cor. 1:10, 13-17) and Matthew’s scripture (4:12-23) reminds us of Jesus calling his first followers. These words give us hope and direction in the time of chaos we are all experiencing in today’s world. If we focus on and follow Jesus’ teaching to love God and our neighbors as ourselves, then as followers of Jesus we can share this message with others. Doing this, perhaps we will help to relieve the divisions of the world. We pray for a time when all people can live without fear. Let us trust that God will hear this prayer!
